You Are Beloved

And did you get what

you wanted from this life, even so?

I did.

And what did you want?

To call myself beloved, to feel myself

beloved on the earth.

Raymond Carver

There were some beloved people in my life these past couple of weeks.

I haven’t let on but my mom has been recovering from a serious infection. It has been a stressful couple of weeks as my family and I walk down the path of recovery with her.

It is amazing how people have been placed in our path. You bump into them and they assist you. Is this coincidence? I think not. I have asked many people to help and/or pray for my mom. Their prayers are working. My mom is much better.

The first week of Mom’s illness, I wrote a post called The Joy of Simple Pleasures. A favorite blogger of mine mentioned it in her blog and wrote a post about what does and does not makes sense. That week NOTHING made sense. I read Heather’s blog and cried tears of sorrow.

The fact is…I needed to cry. I did not understand what was happening to my mom. I was filled with a terrible fear…of making wrong decisions, of not having enough faith, of losing my mom. I said to my dear friend Amy, What would I do without Jim to help me? She said, You would Listen. You would Decide. You would Trust.

So even though I had Jim, I remembered Amy’s words. I decided to listen to the doctors and the nurses. My sisters and I discussed issues as they came up. Thankfully, we reasoned things out and did not argue. We decided on courses of action. We trusted that we had made the right decisions.

Two weeks later, Mom is recovering. And I know….there were people who guided us and prayed on our behalf.

I give humble and grateful thanks to Jim, my kids, my sisters and their partners, Father E., my cousins, my dearest friends, aunts and uncles, Angel Lynda, and the doctors and nurses who continue to watch over Mom and aid her recovery. You are truly beloved.

And most of all I wish to thank God for carrying me these past couple of weeks.

Please say a prayer for my mom. Thank you!

It's nice to share. Thank you.

  1. Your mother is surrounded by love and caring friends and family. I am glad her health is improving. One of the most wonderful and reassuring feelings is given to us when we are called Beloved. Raymond Carver expresses this well. Be loved, be well.

  2. That is a lovely picture of Katherine and her daughter, Joanne. Faith is all and everything. What I am learning of it is most powerful. Your mother has recovered in the hearts of all who love you. Jesus said,”Whatever you ask in prayer, believe you receive it, and you shall have it.” Mark 11:22-24. Believe when you go to God that He has already said ‘yes’, and take it. Then simply thank Him that your mother is in divine health every time you think of it. This is absolutely the secret of Life. It is only our minds which limit God. He is willing.

Blessings to you and your family,
    Marianne

  3. I am so sorry that your mom was so sick, but pleased to hear she is recovering nicely! Losing my mom was the worst thing that ever happened to me…I think losing a child is the only thing that could be worse. I will say an added prayer for your mom…that you have her around and healthy for many years to come!

  4. Hi Joanne, “blessings” to your mom for continued recovery and good health!! Hopefully you will see her get stronger and stronger everyday until she is back making those delicious cookies again….the ones that looked so good they made my mouth water!! The above picture of you and your mother is beauriful!! I love seeing these pictures you share because they so remind me so much of my own mom……a kind loving person with “beautiful grey-white-silver” hair, always with her hands in some kind of dough, making something delicious for her family!!! That is what I see when you share pictures in your blog….a beloved mom!

    1. Cindy, she is definitely beloved. We adore her and that is why this is so hard. Seeing her ordeal the past couple of weeks has been so hard. But we are a united front and we are praying and doing what is best for my mom. Thank you for your positive words. They are most needed and yes, I hope she is back making her delicious cookies very soon!

    1. My hair is soft silver now, versus when that picture was taken, but it was a happy time in our life (we were at a concert in NY) and I love sharing that picture. I am so happy you will lift up my mom- she is responding well and I just know it is all the prayers being sent her way. Love you too!

  6. Prayers of thanksgiving for your mother’s recovery–and for the wise advice and lessons from your friend–and blessings on both you and your mother. You’ve had a rough time, and I hope you can relax now, take a deep breath and then sigh in relief.

  7. Katherine, what a lovely post. Glad to hear your mom is doing much better. I also, love the picture of the two of you together, she looks like a fighter to me! 🙂 When things go wrong in life you have to have faith and believe that all will be well again and yes, prayer is a wonderful thing. Stay blessed!
