Good Golly, Miss Molly!

“Happiness is a warm puppy.” ― Charles M. Schulz

Who’s big, shiny black and carries a big stick? Why it’s my daughter’s new puppy, Miss Molly!

She’s a Great Dane, just a little under one year old and even in couple of months, has grown larger almost right before our eyes. You can tell by the pictures, I’m sure, that she is quite the happy girl.

I knew a Great Dane years ago, when I dated a young Italian who had one. That was long ago and though the memory is faded, I knew Danes to be loving and gentle dogs. That didn’t stop me from being a tad bit scared the first time I met Molly. But that quickly faded as I saw how sweet and sincere she is.

My daughter is Molly’s third owner in her small life. When Michelene told me that I said, “Well, you have to keep her now.” And Michelene agreed. It’s a done deal. Molly is a member of the family.

Molly loves to play fetch in the basement with balls. Intially, she would not go downstairs because her second owner kept her in a basement all the time. 🙁 Michelene was very patient and encouraging with Molly to help her overcome this. She placed dog treats on each step leading down to the basement, and gradually Molly overcame her own fears.

With my daughter’s large yard and property, Molly has plenty of room to run and play. My own pup, Miss Jordan, was initially petrified of Molly but that didn’t last long. They are bosom buddies, often romping in the back yard of Michelene’s house together.

Molly eats two pounds of dog food a day and drinks a LOT of water. She has a special dog/water food combo dish that is elevated off the ground due to her height.

She loves to look out the window at everyone and everything!

How much is that puppy in the window?
How much is that puppy in the window?

I think we know deep down that Molly is an example of how you can be moved around, not sure where you are going, but end up exactly where you are supposed to be. There will always be someone who will love us exactly the way we are. We love Molly for who she is and the potential for what she can become. She is a beautiful dog, inside and out.

Cathching a few Zzzzz!
Catching a few Zzzzz!

Here’s to many good years ahead! We are blessed and lucky to have Molly as a part of our family!

Who is a blessing in your life?

It's nice to share. Thank you.

  1. I fell in love the moment I saw Miss Molly’s ears flapping during her romp in the snow. Such a beautiful dog.
    Thanks for sharing pure goodness.
I am still smiling. I adore dogs. I adore big dogs. I adore big black happy dogs.
    Miss Molly fits the bill.
Here’s to many, many happy years together in your family.

    1. You know, I love her ears too! I always think she needs some big shiny gold hoops, one in each ear. I think then she’d be really dressed up and ready to go.
      Thank you, Sweet Liberty’s Mom!

  2. My oh my, what a beautiful happy ending for Miss Molly! Is there a video somewhere that I’m missing? Nothing is clicking through to one for me. Regardless, I love this post and the photos. Danes are so amazing, and although I’ve never had the chance to love one up close and personally, I’ve know many people who have attested to their beauty inside and out! And I’m always a fan of having a big dog with a big bark in the house. No one has to know about the tail wagging furiously at the other end. Thanks for another great story. You could just write about critters all the time and make me happy! Hugs!

    1. Hi Laurie! There is no video, just pictures! On my Facebook post, someone posted a video of dogs with sticks that is really cute if you want to check it out!
I am so glad to hear your comments- Molly is really a lovely dog! If you come near our area ever, please let me know so you can meet her! xoxoxo Joanne

  3. Hi Joanne, awesome story and a happy ending for everyone! Amazing to think how his personal journey took him to a place of love! Lucky him …lucky your family!! It all works out just the way it is supposed to. ♥♥♥

  4. Bravia, Miss Molly! How fortunate you are, and your pictures are precious. (Especially the one of the nap on the couch. Sleeping dogs and babies make the sweetest pictures.)
Our dog Maggie was abandoned by her owners when she was a year old; our son-in-law police officer found her tied to a post in the back yard of an abandoned rental house, left with only two Cool Whip bowls–one for water and one for food, both turned over and empty–on a hot June day in Kansas.
She’s been a member of our family ever since, for almost 11 years, and our daughter knows that Maggie will be inheriting everything…;) Our daughter and son-in-law have a rescued dog, too, a German Shepherd whose soldier owner went to Iraq.
Trust us, you’re in for a life filled with lessons and blessings with Molly!

    1. Hi Marylin!
What a beautiful rescue story Maggie is. And bravo to your daughter and son in law as well!
We are looking forward to a life with Molly and all her grace and love. Thank you so much for stopping by to share!

  5. Oh My goodness!! the EARS!!! *onyons*

That’s a Harlequin Great Dane? Looks exactly like my Hercules – with paws bigger than his head and gorgeous ears, that formed like coat hangers unless in the throws of an awesome sleep!

    The pictures are beautiful!
I remember when I first got Hercules – he was all feet – like Molly is although he was just a babe, the size of those paws told us Hercules was the perfect name!

    Thanks so much for sharing!

    1. Hi Miss Lou!
Molly does have Harlequin toes (black and white) so she is dressed for any occasion! 🙂
Would love to see a post about your Hercules if one is written already! Send me the link!
      Welcome to my blog!
      Joanne

      1. I no longer have him anymore. He has since passed away. He would have been 15 this year and that is old for any Great Dane!

I will put together a post with some pictures at some stage, and I’ll be sure to pass on the link.

        ML
        xx
